M.Sc. Organic Chemistry Program

Intake:30

Chemistry is the central scientific discipline that investigates the composition, properties, and transformations of matter. It involves the study of the structure, bonding, properties, composition, mechanisms, and reactions of inorganic and organic compounds. There are many instances in our everyday lives that involve the application of chemistry starting from brushing our teeth in the morning to going to sleep at night using a pillow. The five Fs involving food, fodder, fuel, fiber, and fertilizer are essential for a self-sustaining society where chemistry plays a pivotal role. Doctors use it to fight diseases, chefs use it to cook food, farmers use it to increase the growth of crops and forensic experts use it to detect and control crime, and many chemical changes are a part of our daily life. In chemical industries, the various raw materials are converted into vaccines, drugs, personal care products, paints and dyes, metals, petrochemicals, agrochemicals, industrial gases, rubber, paper, cement, glass, fertilizers, insecticides, preservatives, soaps and detergents, synthetic fibers, leather, cosmetics and toiletries, explosive materials and fast moving consumer goods. Because of its incredible contribution to improved health and sanitation facilities, articles on domestic use, building materials, transport and communication, and energy sectors, we lead a more comfortable life today. The chemicals of life include water, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins, minerals, and hormones. Psychobiological research indicates that chemicals released in body processes such as pheromones, testosterone, oestrogens, dopamine, norepinephrine, oxytocin, vasopressin, endorphins, and serotonins make people feel good and contribute to our well-being. Chemistry is an integral and essential part of comprehensive solutions for the physical (body), psychological (mind), and spiritual (soul) problems of every human being. It is crucial to the developments and innovations that we need to make in energy, medicine, sustainability, and security while minimizing environmental impact. It can increase the creativity quotient scores required for leadership competency, by creating new products, processes, and systems.

Placement Opportunities: An undergraduate, postgraduate, and tertiary degree in chemistry could open up placement opportunities in quality control, manufacturing, marketing and support staff positions in the pharmaceutical, metallurgy, glass, beverage, textile, oil, and gasoline industries (junior-, mid-level and senior-level positions). Other career options include different jobs in technical communication, forensic science, agrochemistry, biotechnology, environmental protection, research and development sectors and teaching and research in various sub-disciplines, academic professional, and basic research (assistant-professor, associate-professor, and professor-positions). Thus chemistry professionals have ample opportunities in academia, government, industry, and entrepreneurship sectors. The exciting employment opportunities across multiple fields in both the private and public sectors include different designations such as chemist, quality control analyst, production supervisor, senior research associate, laboratory technologist, research analyst, research officer, agricultural chemist, biotechnologist, chemical product officer, clinical specialist, food and flavor chemist, forensic assistant, quality controller, safety and health inspector, science writer, water quality chemist, pharmacy assistant, and scientific data entry specialist.

The Mission of the Department of Aeronautical Engineering is to:

  • Prepare the students to have a very good fundamental knowledge to meet the present and future needs of industries.
  • Improve the technical knowledge of the students in tune with the current requirements through collaboration with industries and research organizations.
  • Make the students gain enough knowledge in various aspects of system integration.
  • Motivate the students to take up jobs in national laboratories, aircraft manufacturing industries, aerospace industries, airline industries, MRO, AMO, Technical publication companies and all other Aviation related and allied industries of our country.
  • Take up inter and multidisciplinary research, sponsored and consultancy projects with industries and research establishments.
  • Encourage the faculty members and students to do research and to update with the latest developments in the area of Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering.

Aeronautical Engineering graduates have knowledge of aerodynamics, aerospace materials, structures, propulsion, flight mechanics, and stability and control. They can find opportunities in any of the following categories:

  1. Design or Manufacturing Engineer in the aircraft-manufacturing units
  2. Defense services and research and development organizations
  3. ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) and The Defense Ministry
  4. Civil Aviation Department
  5. National Aeronautical Laboratory
  6. Defense Research and Development Laboratories (DRDO) and
  7. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
